A very interesting line-up, with three very different Metal bands, each prominently featuring a female vocalist. First was Infected Rain, a Metalcore band from Moldavia. We were a little late, therefore didn't get to take any pictures but still were able to see the whole set.
While their brand of Nu-Metal are not exactly our cup of tea (or glass of beer in that case), one must admit that they did a great job and most of the crowd that had gathered here got really into them, the energy of their lead growler Lena Scissorhands (I shit you not) being the main motivator. They relied heavily on samples, triggers and backing tapes, which makes us wonder exactly how much of that performance was actually live... Which is an increasingly annoying tread. That being said they were very good and the perfect opener for such a night.
Lacuna Coil was always on my radar somewhat, but I must admit to never having delved into their catalog. I've listened to some of their most famous albums, of course and it was great to hear some of their most famous songs like Our Truth and Heaven's A Lie, as well as their cover of Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence.
Again, their seems to be quite a lot of pre-recorded trickery, as some notes seemed unnatural and sometimes out of sync. This is a real shame as they have the skills to pull off their set and they do not really need all those flourishes.
But all in all their performance was great. Cristina Scabbia has a great voice and a great presence, and their epic, theatrical Gothic Metal is perfectly at home in this sort of mid-size venue. It was a very good set by one of the now classic bands of the new scene.
