Extremely sad news: one of the originators of reggae has died at the age of 77 from complications of COVID-19. This shitty virus has wreaked havoc everywhere on the planet and has already taken some beloved musicians like John Prine, Manu Dibango, Dave Greenfield of the Stranglers, Trini Lopez, Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, and many more.
We saw Toots and his Maytals (at this point just the name for his backing band, as the original Maytals are now long gone) just under two years ago at the Olympia and the crowd danced through the whole set. At 75, his now-rotund figure strapped in black leather, he was every bit the legend his reputation suggests. Click HERE for a full review of the show, pictures and even a short video.
He had just released an excellent new record a couple of weeks ago entitled Got To Be Tough which you can listen to by scanning the QR code below.
