Friday's Playlist: Awesome Guitar Solos (pt.4)

This Friday's Playlist is the fourth installment in our Awesome Guitar Solos series. You can find the previous installments HEREHERE and HERE.

Again, this is a mix of classic solos and less obvious ones. I'm particularly fond of Ollie Halsall's lead guitar work on Kevin Ayer's Blue. In fact, the whole record is killer. Ollie Halsall, of course, was the gitbox player in Patto and Boxer, two under appreciated bands which I can only recommend you check out.

The jazz numbers that open the playlist are also extremely tasty. Check out the interplay between Bill Frisell and John Scofield on Marc Johnson's Bass Desires. I guess, technically it's a duo more than a solo...

And, in another genre, the Marty Friedman's solo on Megadeth's Tornado of Souls has rightfully become a metal classic. It's just perfectly structured, and the build-up will make you want to smash shit.

There won't be much updates on the site during summer vacation, so next playlist will most likely be around September. Hopefully live gigs will have returned by then... In the mean time you can revisit our Sounds of Summer playlist from two years ago (has it been that long?) by clicking HERE.

Enjoy, comment and share!
