Nicko McBrain retires from Iron Maiden

Not totally unexpected, but shocking nonetheless: he is the oldest member of the band, and a stroke a few years ago made it difficult for him to play at the level we're accustomed to. Nicko McBrain has announced that tonight's show in Brazil, the last one of the South American leg of the 2024 Future Past Tour, will be his last with the band he joined 42 years ago. Who will be behind the drum kit for the upcoming Run For Your Lives Tour is anyone's guess. Who you would like to see? Mike Portnoy? Jay Weinberg? Eric Singer? Mickey Dee? Anyone else? A Brit, preferably? Let us know at our socials or at our Electric Eye Forums.

*UPDATE*: Predictably perhaps, the band announced on Dec. 8th that Nicko's replacement would be Simon Dawson, who sits behind the kit in Iron Maiden mastermind's Steve Harris' side project British Lion.
