The Black Lips' new single "Satan (I'm Tired of You)" revives a lost gospel-country oddity with a snarling punk twang. Originally written by R. Wayne Jarrard and recorded in 1966 by the obscure trio Wayne, Pat & Keith, the song was a fiery lament against the devil’s grip. The Black Lips drag it through the dirt, swapping out the original’s solemn plea for a half-sneered, half-howled confession of exhaustion and defiance. It’s a back-porch exorcism wrapped in outlaw country and scorched garage punk, a perfect fit for a band that thrives in the space between sincerity and chaos.
