They came. They saw. They obliterated.
For the third time in just over a year, Suffocation stormed Paris like a relentless death metal juggernaut, leaving a trail of battered eardrums and grinning, sweat-drenched faces in their wake. Sure, there were no big surprises – but when a band delivers this level of punishing precision every single time, who the hell needs surprises?
Suffocation just don't fuck around. Never have, never will. From the first guttural roar to the last cymbal crash, they did exactly what they do best: pummel the audience into oblivion with inhuman technicality, crushing groove, and sheer merciless brutality. Every musician in this band is an apex predator on their instrument, locking into each other with machine-like tightness. And frontman Ricky Myers sounds like a Lovecraftian horror given voice – deeper, darker, and more monstrous than ever.
Their latest offering, Hymns from the Apocrypha, takes their signature sound and dials it up to even more grotesque extremes. The vocals are sicker, the riffs more evil, the solos twisted into grotesque shapes. The breakdowns are so heavy they threaten to rupture the Earth's crust, while the blast beats are so punishing they make lesser drummers question their life choices.
And the Glazart audience lapped it up like a horde of starving demons. Headbanging, moshing, windmilling – the whole infernal ballet of death metal worship was in full force.
At 45 minutes, the set was a little short for a headliner, but let’s be real – how much more punishment can one mere mortal withstand after four back-to-back extreme bands? Suffo spoiled us.
So, same time next year?
(Apologies for the photos that are even crappier than usual... There was absolutely ZERO light on the band for the duration of the show!)
