The 80s Post-Punk, Gothic, and Electro-Pop revival shows no signs of slowing. After Heartworms' sold-out show last month, Paris welcomed another rising name: Madeline Goldstein, opening for A Place To Bury Strangers. Hailing from Los Angeles and channeling the spirit of Depeche Mode, Bauhaus or Fad Gadget, Goldstein delivered a set of fun, brooding tunes with just the right amount of theatrical darkness.
Backed by tape loops and local guitarist Lila Ehjä—who impressively learned the set in just a few days—the performance felt both retro and current, like an update on the sounds pioneered by New Order or Sisters of Mercy, and a great opener for the furious onslaught of decibels that was about to hit.
